Marilyn OneRow Scarf

So called because you make it by repeating one row. What could be simpler?!
YOU WILL NEED:
1 pair of 40cm 5mm needles or one circular 5mm needle - 1 ball of Rosarios Bio Bamboo yarn - 2 stitch markers
Cast on 7 stitches, loosely.
-
Foundation Row: Slip 1, Yarn Over, Knit 2. Place stitch marker on right-hand needle. Knit 1. Place second stitch marker on right-hand needle. Knit to last stitch, Yarn Over, Knit 1.
-
Every Row: Slip one, Yarn Over, Knit to stitch marker, Yarn Over. Move stitch marker onto right-hand needle. Knit 1. Move second stitch marker onto right-hand needle. Yarn Over, Knit to last stitch, Yarn Over, Knit 1.
-
Your stitch markers will always be one each side of the central stitch.
-
Each row increases your stitch count by 4, 1 at each end and 2 in the centre. Once the pattern is established and you are confident about the location of the central stitch, you can dispense with the stitch markers.
-
Continue repeating the One Row until you are left with just sufficient yarn for the cast off. However, allow plenty because of the Picot cast off.
PICOT CAST OFF
-
Cast on 2 stitches, Cast off 5 stitches. *Move 1 stitch from right-hand needle onto left-hand needle, Cast on 2 stitches, Cast off 5 stitches. Repeat from * to end. NB Last cast off may be fewer than 5 stitches.
-
Fasten off.
NOW WORK ON YOUR OWN VARIATION:
-
Add beads to the picots
-
Continue knitting until the scarf is a shawl - you will need more yarn
-
Use different yarn. Choose needles that are 1 or 2 sizes larger than the size recommended on the ball band, to ensure a good drape:
-
Fine mohair will make a soft, cobwebby scarf
-
Cotton, Silk and Bamboo all give a good drape and swing
-
Wool gives warmth
-
Homespun gives a true artisan effect
-
Mixed yarn types give texture and variety
Now, who will you make your next one for?
